Don’t Worry, Be Happy

smiley-300CHURCH IN 90 SECONDS

In Philippians chapter 4 verse 6, God’s Word says:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” NLT

Do you remember when you were a little kid? Mama or daddy would say “get in the car baby”, and off you’d go. No worries. Just wonderment. Off on an adventure! “Where are we going daddy? You’ll see,” he’d say. You would smile. Content. Knowing that daddy was in charge. Not a care in the world.

Things seem different now, don’t they? Now we worry.
Some friends of my folks had a sign in their patio that read: “Worry is the interest you pay on trouble- before you have it.” Even the world knows that statistically, fully 90 percent of what we worry about never even happens!

So why do we? Because the devil doesn’t want us to know how simply this problem resolution stuff actually works.

My pastor, Bryan Wright, narrowed it down one day when listening to God instruct him on what he came to call “Simple Steps to Victory.” Here they are. (Parenthetical comments are mine.)

Simple Steps to Victory:

  1. Don’t take any action, and shut your mouth. (Don’t make panicky phone calls to your friends- they don’t know what to do either.)
  2. Get in relationship with God: Read the Bible. Pray. Praise and worship our Lord. Get to church. (Philippians 4:6)
  3. Listen for God’s wisdom. (James 1:5)
  4. Act on that wisdom. (Duh)
  5. Be faithful and patient. (James 1:3-4)

Do not focus on the problem. Please. The devil doesn’t want you to realize how simply all this works. Once we realize its simplicity and effectiveness, witnessed its positive results, the devil has lost the battle!

You mean to tell me that I should IGNORE my problems once I’ve sought God and focus on Him? Ummm, yeah.

Here’s the really cool part:

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 NLT

Shazaam! I like the sound of that!
