Pastor Bryan in his Sermon series “RESET” quotes Jeremy Pearsons as saying,
“If you’re not hungry for God then you’ve filled yourself on something else.”
We all know people who we think are full of some stuff. Some of them are even church people! But all kidding aside, there is a tremendous amount of truth in this statement. I was listening to a series on “Fear” by Brother Kenneth Copeland. He defines fear as Faith in the power of death. When I heard him say these words it hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t know that I had Faith in the power of death. But I did. Truthfully I still do. I think we all do to some degree. We all have things that we are afraid of. But, Praise God, I’m renewing my mind every time it comes up and I’m changing my thoughts.
When I see a snake my flesh wants to scream, jump, run or do something. I have a crazy fear of snakes. Even though I am lot bigger than any snake I’m gonna come in contact with in NC. Dealing with this takes mind renewal!
You see we all have faith in something. My friend Pastor John Shields often says there is “honest” and “judgement-day honest.” If we are “judgment-day honest” with ourselves we will realize that in many areas of our life our faith is not in God. I think many times we have more faith in the refrigerator than we do in our Heavenly Father. Folks that’s sad. But you see we don’t know Him. We don’t live our lives in a relationship with Him that helps us understand who He is.
If we don’t know who He is we can’t understand His ways.
The bible tells us His ways are not the same as our ways. (Isaiah 55:9) We have pictures in our mind of the White Headed guy on a throne in Heaven with a lightning bolt ready to zap us every time we mess up. But that isn’t who God is.
Jesus gave his life so that we can truly live. (John 10:10) That means in eternity but it also means here on the earth. The Bible tells us that God is Love. (1 John 4:8) God doesn’t want to strike you down. He wants to pour out a blessing in your life that you can’t even comprehend. But you see we are constantly battling what we see with our eyes and feel with our senses.
Feelings can mislead us.
That’s why we aren’t called to walk by sight or by anything else.
We are to walk by Faith. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
But its hard to have faith in someone you don’t know. I encourage you to ask yourself the hard questions:
- What do you have Faith in? Jesus tells us to have faith in God. (Mark 11:22)
- What are you full of? If you aren’t hungry for God you are definitely full on something else.
To live that “zoe” life (John 10:10) that Jesus has bought and paid for, then we need to start living a life in relationship with God.
